Benelli M4
Buy Benelli M4 Tactical 5+1 capacity 18.5” barrel 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun is an evolution of the M1, M2, and M3 line. Benelli currently offers the M4 Tactical in four models. All have the same 18.5” length barrel and share most overall dimensions.
The differences? You can get the guns with either an Anodized Black receiver with a Phosphate barrel or with a Titanium Cerakote receiver and barrel. Regardless, other parts such as the forend and stock are matte black. Beyond color, you have your choice of pistol grip (standard stock) or standard grip.

Each M4 Tactical comes with one M choke tube. The chamber handles both 2 3/4″ and 3″ shells. The gun has a standard ghost ring sight, but it also has a medium-length Picatinny rail atop the receiver. Length of pull is 14 3/8”, drop at comb is 1 1/2″ while drop at heel is 2 1/4″. Overall length is 40” and weight is 7.8 pounds for all four models.
The gun’s wizardry derives from Benelli’s patented ARGO system. ARGO stands for Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated.
This self-cleaning, piston-driven action has a simple short-stroke dual-piston design. ARGO eliminates the need for more complicated mechanisms like heavy action bars and connecting linkages found on other similar shotguns.
You can also opt-out of these shotguns with a full set of five chokes: C, IC, M, IM, F as well as three-dot tritium sight inserts.
The M4 Tactical shotgun is the combat service shotgun of the U.S. Joint Services today.
- Ghost-ring sights for quick target acquisition
- Picatinny rail for mounting scopes, sights, and optics
- The extended magazine will hold seven 2-3/4″ or 3″ magnum shells

M4 Tactical Shotgun
A member of the U.S. Marine Corps fires an M1014 shotgun as part of training in December 2006.The M4 was the first gas-operated shotgun produced by Benelli. Its function is designed around an entirely new design called the “auto-regulating gas-operated” (ARGO) system. The short-stroke design uses two self-cleaning stainless steel pistons located just ahead of the chamber to function opposite a rotating bolt, thereby eliminating the need for the complex mechanisms found on other gas-actuated automatics.
The ARGO incorporates only four parts: two symmetrical fore-end shrouds containing two small steel pistons that push directly against the bolt.
Additionally, the weapon is self-regulating for use with shotshells of varying lengths and power levels. It can fire 2.75 in (70 mm) and 3 in (76 mm) shells of differing propellant loads without any operator adjustments and in any combination.
The sights are military-style ghost rings and are adjustable in the field using only the rim of a shell. The MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail on top of the receiver allows the use of both conventional optical sights and night-vision devices while retaining the use of the original iron sights.
It allows a user to quickly exchange the various assembly groups (barrel, buttstock, forend, etc.) without the use of additional tools.
Buy Benelli M4 Tactical Durability
Preliminary testing of the M4 suggests a high level of reliability. It can reliably function for at least 25,000 rounds without the replacement of any major parts. The steel components of the weapon feature a matte black phosphate corrosion-resistant finish while the aluminum parts are matte hard-anodized. These finishes reduce the weapon’s visibility during night operations.
The buttstock is collapsible on the M4 Model (designated 11707) and on the M1014 Collapsing the buttstock shortens the weapon by almost 8 in (200 mm), allowing easier storage and transportation; furthermore, it permits better maneuverability around tight corners and over obstacles.
The M4 is also available with both pistol grip and semi-grip fixed stocks, with these also being available for the M1014. The M4 is no longer sold today with the skeleton buttstock (model M11707) to civilians. Benelli only sells the M4 with a fixed pistol grip-style tactical stock in the United States. The collapsible buttstock is bought by civilians in Canada.
